NYHS's Founding Partners are uniquely equipped to support our ambitious mission. Their ideas, resources and organizational expertise help us offer a truly innovative education.
Urban Assembly
Led by Richard Kahan,
The Urban Assembly is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating small, public, college-preparatory high schools that provide high quality education
to students who would otherwise attend large,
under-performing schools. By combining a rigorous course of study with authentic learning experiences and interaction with outside partners, UA schools offer students an academic experience that is challenging and relevant. UA has created a family of outstanding small schools led by accomplished principals and supported through partnerships with the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
South Street Seaport Museum
Founded in 1967, the
South Street Seaport Museum traces the history of the Port of New York, and its commercial and cultural impact on the city, the state, and the nation. New York’s premier maritime museum, South Street Seaport provides NYHS with essential teaching resources, including:
- The Lettie G. Howard, which is the school's full-time education vessel for the sailing season;
- Space in Schermerhorn Row for Marine Science and Harbor Humanities classes;
- Access to the waterfront for water quality testing and oyster gardening;
- Venues for boat-building, marine surveying, and vessel technology classes;
Waterkeeper Alliance
Led by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.,
Waterkeeper Alliance empowers 150 local Waterkeeper programs to protect communities, ecosystems and water quality all over the world. There are six New York City area Waterkeeper programs.
Waterkeeper’s philosophy shapes our academics and our students, who are informal Waterkeepers, ensuring the value of waterbodies for industry, government, recreation, travel, commerce and fishing.
