If you are interested in attending New York Harbor School, you should:

1. Downloaded our 8th Grade Admissions Brochure (opens in Acrobat)
2. Have listed New York Harbor School (in the H.S. Book) as one of your 12 high school choices on your preference form;
3. Have met a Harbor School representative at a high school fair, Open House, or a visit to your Middle School;
4. Put your name and information on our interest form.

The higher on your interest form you put us, the better your chances of being accepted.

New York Harbor School will admit approximately 115 students each year, including around 10 incoming 10th graders.

The ongoing recruitment process involves school visits, open houses, and brochure distribution and is overseen by a committee that includes the Principal, the Program Director and Guidance Counselor.

We seek students who have a special interest or aptitude in Marine Science or Marine Technology. Also, we are looking for students who are interested in working hard, trying something new, and learning more about the role water has played in the development of our society here and around the world.

New York Harbor School will be working with the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation (GIPEC) and the Department of Education to site the school on the Island. We will move in time to open our new academic building on Governors Island in the fall of 2010.

In order to get to meet interested students, we have visited many middle schools and have held several open houses, but you may still show interest by calling our Parent Coordinator to schedule a visit to the school during our regular school days. On your visit and you will be met by a representative of the school who can give you a tour. More Open Houses will be scheduled in the future.
