We are currently hiring for the following positions:

  • Principal's Secretary

We are looking for an addition to our team of passionate, committed educators to help us build an innovative school and meet our standards of excellence. NYHS has been granted many amazing opportunities, and in order to take advantage of them, we need more administrative support from someone creative, enthusiastic, and organized.

This job is ideal for a college graduate interested in learning about the inner-workings of a public school and/or, nonprofit management, and helping traditionally underserved students get a high-quality education.

The Principal's Secretary is a varied position, providing administrative support to the school leaders. Tasks may include:

  • Helping the principal to organize paperwork and schedules
  • Purchasing, payroll, and pupil accounting work
  • Meeting with parents, students and teachers who visit the office
  • Preparing documents and other clerical work
  • Problem solving and special projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • While holding a UFT Secretary Credential is not required, candidates must be willing and able to acquire this license, including passing the UFT test, which includes writing, editing and typing (about 70 wpm).
  • At least one year of service in a secretarial, clerical, or administrative assistant position.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in speech and writing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft business applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
  • Familiarity with Department of Education operational systems (including Galaxy, FAMIS, Cybershift, CAP, ATS, ARIS, HSST) preferred.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Flexibility, ability to multi-task, willingness to do a variety of jobs as needed in a small school environment, organization, and commitment to our mission are essential.
