We separate organic waste from the garden, kitchen, cafeteria, and teacher’s lounge to reduce waste and produce fertile soil. Students compost these wastes on-site in our Earth Tub In-Vessel system. Brown material is added to the compost system using waste from Governors Yard and sawdust from the boat-building program. The finished compost serves as a fertile soil additive for the organic community garden. The Compost Program received the Golden Shovel Award for waste reduction in New York City in the fall of 2012.
