CLUBS

Students will engage with various forms of multi-media to create, share, and educate the Harbor School community. From Zines and school news, to poster production for the sports teams and photography-centric Instagram feeds; the Harbor Media Corps is envisioned as a club for students interested in all forms of digital and physical media design, with a particular focus on visual and audio communication. This club is a reformation of the former Newspaper Club by its founding student members, who would like to reimagine the scope and accessibility of the club to be more applicable to all students.

Students participating in this program will be meeting at the Village Community Boathouse (VCB) to row as crews in traditional Whitehall Gigs in the Pier 40 basin and on the Hudson River.

The Harbor Sharks Boys Basketball Program represents the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School and provides student-athletes with a competitive basketball experience centered on discipline, accountability, academics, leadership, and personal development. The program is designed to develop more than basketball players. Student-athletes are expected to represent Harbor School with pride in the classroom, on the court, and throughout their community. Players are held to high standards for academic performance, attendance, conduct, communication, and commitment to their teammates. On the court, the Harbor Sharks emphasize team basketball, defensive intensity, toughness, conditioning, basketball IQ, and playing with purpose. Practices and competition are structured to challenge student-athletes while helping them develop the skills, confidence, and discipline necessary to compete at a high level. Off the court, the program uses basketball as a vehicle to expose students to college opportunities, career pathways, mentorship, leadership development, and experiences beyond their everyday environment. Through college visits, team activities, community engagement, and other enrichment opportunities, the goal is to prepare players for success well beyond their time at Harbor School. Being a Harbor Shark means understanding that wearing the jersey comes with responsibility. We are students first, teammates second, and competitors always. Every player is expected to contribute to a culture built on accountability, respect, hard work, and representing something larger than themselves.

Harbor SEALS are the Sea, Estuary, Air, and Land (SEALs) Civic Science Environmental Monitoring program at the New York Harbor School. We bring together Civic Scientists to remove marine debris & monitor the health of the Hudson Raritan Estuary, educate the public in collaboration with artist partners such as Big Green Theatre, and create the conditions to help bring the harbor seal back to NYC.
