Important Information for Harbor School Families 


Dear Harbor School Families,


Welcome — and welcome back!


I’m so excited to kick off another amazing year at the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School. Whether your student is just starting their Harbor journey or returning for another year, I want you to know how thrilled I am to support you and your family as we continue building a strong, inclusive school community together.

As your Parent Coordinator, I’m here to help answer questions, solve problems, and connect you with resources. Our goal this year is simple: to give every student the tools, environment, and support they need to have their best academic year yet — and that starts with clear, consistent communication and community collaboration.


Below are a few important things to know as we begin the school year:


🗓️ First Day of School

  • Thursday, September 10, 2026

  • Classes for 10th-12th students begin promptly at 8:30 AM.Students should take the 8:00 AM ferry from the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street, Slip 7). Ferry rides are free for Harbor School students.

  • 9th grade students will be engaged in orientation activities.


📋 Schedules 

  • Students in 10th-12th will receive their class schedules at the Mess Hall upon arrival on the first day.

  • 9th grade students will receive class schedules on Friday, 9/11.


SCHOOL MEALS- School meals begin on the first day of school (breakfast and lunch are free for all students).


TRANSPORTATION

💳 OMNY Cards

  • Students will receive their school OMNY MetroCards during the first week of school.

Make sure your student knows how to get home from school using public transportation (even if your student is taking a private bus service).


Governors Island Ferry  is free for all students.


We highly recommend that:

  • Students have an OMNY card with $20 on it just in case they lose their school OMNY card

  • Students always have $20 (cash) to be used only in an emergency

ATTENDANCE

IMPORTANT: Parents/Guardians - on all school days -  if a student is late,absent, or needs to leave school early, this form must be completed.

NOTES MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN THE SEMESTER OF THE ABSENCE (SEP – JAN or FEB – JUNE)


📱Cellphone & Technology Policy

It is very important that families review and discuss our updated cellphone policy.


💻 Technology 

Students will be issued Chromebooks for in-school use. If a student needs to borrow a Chromebook for home use - Fill out this form LOAN FORM, and send the request to  Louis Chi, CWong32@schools.nyc.gov.


Device Return Reminder - If you still have a device from last year or from a previous school, please return it to the New York Harbor School. All DOE-issued devices must be returned, including iPads and Chromebooks. Bring the device to school and hand it directly to the Principal, Assistant Principal, Parent Coordinator, School Point of Contact for Technology (SPOC), or another staff member responsible for technology.

🛍️ School Uniforms

All students are expected to Harbor Up every day by wearing their Harbor outer layer (NYHS t-shirt, polo, or sweatshirt) and showing their Harbor inner layer (dedication and pride in all they do).

Uniform Donation Drive

We are currently collecting gently used uniforms to help support our school community. If you have any washed and folded items to donate, they can be dropped off in the collection bin located at the BMB. Thank you, as always, for your generosity and partnership.


LOCKERS

All students who wish to have a locker need to request one in the main office. There will be a sign up list. Students then will be assigned a locker during the first weeks of school. Please be patient with us as we assign students their lockers.


SUGGESTED SUPPLY LIST

Students should report to school on the first day with a notebook, pen, and pencil. Teachers will let students know what supplies are needed for the remainder of the year. Here is the suggested list.

  • October 12th: Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples' Day, schools closed

Students please note our Club Fair will be on September/October- an email will be sent out soon with information.

We love engaging with our families! This year, you’ll have chances to:

  • Join parent workshops

  • Participate in community events

  • Volunteer at school functions

  • Attend monthly PTA meetings

  • Be a voice for your student’s experience

OTHER RESOURCES


Discipline Code

There are items that students are prohibited from bringing to school. These items listed in the Citywide Behavioral Expectations to Support Student Learning (Discipline Code) include, but are not limited, to blades, knives, other sharp metal instruments, etc. Students who bring these items to school may be subject to disciplinary measures. 


Chancellor’s Regulations

New York Harbor School adheres to safety regulations as specified by the Department of Education. All regulations are available on the Department of Education's website.

Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar otro año maravilloso en Urban Assembly New York Harbor School. Ya sea que su estudiante esté comenzando su experiencia en Harbor o regresando para otro año, quiero que sepan lo feliz que me siento de poder apoyar a ustedes y a sus familias mientras continuamos construyendo juntos una comunidad escolar sólida, inclusiva y unida.


Como su Coordinadora de Padres (Parent Coordinator), estoy aquí para ayudar a responder preguntas, resolver problemas y conectarlos con los recursos que necesiten. Nuestro objetivo este año es sencillo: brindar a cada estudiante las herramientas, el ambiente y el apoyo que necesita para tener su mejor año académico. Esto comienza con una comunicación clara y constante, así como con la colaboración de toda nuestra comunidad.

A continuación encontrarán información importante para comenzar el año escolar:


🗓️ PRIMER DÍA DE CLASES

Jueves, 10 de septiembre de 2026

  • Las clases para los estudiantes de 10.º a 12.º grado comenzarán puntualmente a las 8:30 a. m.

  • Los estudiantes deben tomar el ferry de las 8:00 a. m. desde Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street, Slip 7).

  • El ferry es gratuito para los estudiantes de Harbor School.

  • Los estudiantes de 9.º grado participarán en actividades de orientación.


📋 HORARIOS DE CLASES

  • Los estudiantes de 10.º a 12.º grado recibirán sus horarios de clases en el Mess Hall al llegar el primer día de clases.

🚌 TRANSPORTE

💳 Tarjetas OMNY

Los estudiantes recibirán sus tarjetas OMNY escolares durante la primera semana de clases.

Es importante que su estudiante sepa cómo regresar a casa utilizando transporte público, incluso si normalmente utiliza un servicio de autobús privado.


⛴️ Ferry de Governors Island

El ferry de Governors Island es gratuito para todos los estudiantes.

Recomendamos que:

  • Los estudiantes tengan una tarjeta OMNY con $20 de saldo, en caso de que pierdan su tarjeta escolar.

  • Los estudiantes lleven siempre $20 en efectivo, reservados únicamente para una emergencia.

📅 ASISTENCIA

IMPORTANTE: Padres, madres y tutores:

En todos los días de clases, si un estudiante llega tarde, está ausente o necesita salir temprano de la escuela, se debe completar este formulario.

⚠️ Las notas de ausencia deben recibirse dentro del semestre correspondiente: SEPTIEMBRE–ENERO o FEBRERO–JUNIO.


📱 POLÍTICA DE TELÉFONOS CELULARES Y TECNOLOGÍA

Es muy importante que todas las familias revisen y conversen con sus estudiantes sobre nuestra política actualizada de teléfonos celulares. Política de teléfonos celulares de NYHS


💻 TECNOLOGÍA Y CHROMEBOOKS

Los estudiantes recibirán Chromebooks para uso dentro de la escuela.

Si un estudiante necesita solicitar un Chromebook para utilizarlo en casa, complete el formulario de préstamo y envíe la solicitud a Louis Chi, CWong32@schools.nyc.gov. Formulario de préstamo de Chromebook


Recordatorio sobre la devolución de dispositivos: Si todavía tiene un dispositivo de un año escolar anterior o de otra escuela, por favor devuélvalo a New York Harbor School.


Todos los dispositivos proporcionados por el DOE deben ser devueltos, incluyendo iPads y Chromebooks.

🛍️ UNIFORMES ESCOLARES

Todos los estudiantes deben “Harbor Up” todos los días utilizando una capa exterior de Harbor, como una camiseta, polo o sudadera de NYHS, y demostrando su “capa interior” de Harbor: dedicación, compromiso y orgullo en todo lo que hacen.

👕 Campaña de Donación de Uniformes

Actualmente estamos recolectando uniformes usados en buen estado para apoyar a nuestra comunidad escolar.

Si tiene uniformes limpios, lavados y doblados que desea donar, puede dejarlos en el contenedor de donaciones ubicado en el BMB. ¡Gracias, como siempre, por su generosidad y colaboración!


🔐 CASILLEROS (LOCKERS)

Todos los estudiantes que deseen tener un casillero deben solicitarlo en la oficina principal. Habrá una lista de inscripción. Los estudiantes recibirán su casillero durante las primeras semanas de clases. Les pedimos paciencia mientras completamos el proceso de asignación.


✏️ LISTA DE ÚTILES ESCOLARES SUGERIDOS

Los estudiantes deben presentarse a la escuela el primer día con:

  • Un cuaderno

  • Un bolígrafo

  • Un lápiz

Los maestros informarán a los estudiantes sobre cualquier otro material que necesiten durante el año escolar.


📧 MANTÉNGASE CONECTADO CON HARBOR SCHOOL

Por favor, complete este formulario para proporcionar una dirección de correo electrónico actual de los padres/madres/tutores de NYHS. Formulario para proporcionar su correo electrónico


El correo electrónico que proporcione le permitirá recibir comunicaciones de:

  • La Coordinadora de Padres

  • La escuela

  • La Asociación de Padres (PTA)

Para dejar de recibir correos de la Asociación de Padres, utilice la opción de cancelar suscripción que aparece al final de los mensajes enviados por la PTA.

Las fechas específicas de nuestra escuela están publicadas y se actualizarán en el calendario del sitio web de New York Harbor School.

Los estudiantes también deben estar atentos a información sobre nuestra Feria de Clubes, que se llevará a cabo en septiembre/octubre. Próximamente enviaremos más información.


👪 OPORTUNIDADES PARA PADRES, MADRES Y TUTORES

¡Nos encanta involucrar a nuestras familias! Este año tendrán oportunidades para:

  • Participar en talleres para padres

  • Participar en eventos comunitarios

  • Ser voluntarios en actividades escolares

  • Asistir a las reuniones mensuales de la PTA

  • Compartir sus ideas y ser una voz importante en la experiencia escolar de sus estudiantes

Código Disciplinario

Hay ciertos artículos que los estudiantes tienen prohibido llevar a la escuela. De acuerdo con las Expectativas de Comportamiento de la Ciudad para Apoyar el Aprendizaje Estudiantil (Código Disciplinario), estos incluyen, entre otros, cuchillas, cuchillos y otros instrumentos metálicos afilados.


Los estudiantes que lleven estos artículos a la escuela pueden estar sujetos a medidas disciplinarias.

New York Harbor School cumple con las normas de seguridad establecidas por el Departamento de Educación de la Ciudad de Nueva York.
