Student Applications Now Open

Good afternoon,

The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement is excited to announce the launch of New York City’s Commissioner for a Day (CFAD) program, which is a unique opportunity for students in grades 7–12 and recent high school graduates to step into leadership and experience government in action.

Through CFAD, selected students will shadow senior leaders across City government, including Deputy Mayors, Commissioners, and Unit Heads for a one-day immersive experience.

Participants will attend meetings and reflect on their role as a future civic leader. This year’s CFAD event will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025

The deadline to apply is Monday, August 18, 2025.  Apply here: bit.ly/cfad2025.

Selected students will have demonstrated a strong interest in leadership, civic engagement, local government, and issues relevant to the host agency. NYC students from all backgrounds are welcome to apply!

For questions, please send an email to CivicEngagement@cityhall.nyc.gov.
