College Now
We're happy to partner with Kingsborough Community College to offer two College Now classes here on the Harbor School campus.
Qualified students who are interested have the option of taking:
-
Student Development 10: Introduction to College Planning
-
Student Development 11: Career and Life Planning
Classes are led by our School Counselor and Kingsborough Adjunct Instructor, Shaun Panton.
These are dual enrollment courses that allow students to earn both high school and free CUNY college credits, while preparing and planning for their future.
Students start out by taking SD 10, which covers researching colleges and other post-secondary pathways, navigating the college application process, and choosing a college major that matches their interests and goals, while evaluating the return on investment (ROI) of various options to make informed choices. They then move on to SD 11, which builds on SD 10 but focuses on choosing a meaningful career path and how to start the journey to the career and life of their dreams. By the end of both of these courses, students will know more about themselves and will have a greater understanding of what they want to do after they leave high school. We hope to expand our College Now offerings in the future.
